Stan Rogers

Somebody said that blogs end up being tools to show case other works... nothing new really created. I can see this.

We were Christmas shopping at a craft fair tonight. Bought some great pictures from a printer/lithographer. She had something labeled "St Stan". I loved the uncanny likeness to Stan Rogers - and long story short, it was a tribute to Stan Rogers. She and I talked at length about Stan, but Fidel, not being from this part of the world, didn't know who we were talking about

Without getting into it all, tonight I dragged out a couple of tapes of his music.... and now he has heard and also likes the wonder that is Stan.

The wonders of "You Tube", I looked to see what I could share. I wanted something with Stan in it, and NOT the tragic AC crash that ended his life ( but resulted in great airline safety reforms)

So here is a bit of "East Coast Music", ala Stan. His brother Garnet is also a fabulous singer/writer/performer.

As I said last night, "You Tube" sends you on these great journeys. I found a fav song, "Rawhide", presented by someone with a great sense of humour... have another fav group of mine "mouthing the words. They are "The Riders in the Sky"

I'm tired & rambling, but I just wanted to share some good & fun music

26 years ago, I was listening to a BBC radio program that featured an hour of songs put together by the CBC as part of a North Atlantic Radio competition. The hour program was to showcase their country's character and spirit. CBC decided to do an hour of Stan Roger's songs as a way of telling the country's history. I was mesmerized. I taped it and learnt most of the songs and can still sing them from memory today. Needless to say, it also won the radio competition.

LGS - Something about Stan.

I've got Fidel hooked too. I was home sick the other day and all I heard was Stan after Stan after Stan....

I'm just glad Fidel can't sing.!!!

If you like this kind of music, CKCU ( Carleton University's Radio station) plays "Music from the Glen" every Sunday from 11:30 to 1pm my time. You can hear it on the internet at
