Peeeeee ewwwwwwww !!!!

I don't think this is as bad as it might be in Vancouver right now... I understand the city workers are still on strike, 3 months now. Where is all the garbage going ?

Anyhow, enough wondering. I was doing enough yesterday and today.

What wondering you ask .....

Well ,why Fidel and I (well maybe just me) had all sorts of malodorous body toots these past few days ( I know, I know.... more than you need to know) ?

I suspected the leftover turkey, from Thanksgiving.

Cripes - we had been eating it almost constantly: two big dinners, a zillion sandwiches and even a large turkey pot pie? And still more left overs than a 16 lb turkey 'otta have left. But Fidel concluded that the meat was fine, so it wasn't the cause for these noises (and pest fumigation attempts); it smelled okay and wasn't green yet.

If Fidel says its "Okay", it is. I'll use dairy products past due date (as long as they aren't curdled or rancid), but he's a firm "dairy due date" kinda guy.

But why so much turkey left to be eaten, or why so much turkey we had eaten to date? Our theory was that this turkey was actually quinoa in disguise .... Its one of those stories I'll have to tell you another day. But to get the gist: if you ever saw the Star Trek TV show and the episode about the Tribbles, which had them multiplying at an enormous rate, thats our theory about cooked quinoa.

Last night we opened the freezer and oooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh boy !!!! What a stench. I didn't think I was freezing any dead carrion, yet, for Hallowe'en. But who knows what I do in my sleep.

The smell dissipated pretty fast. After a carrion check, all I could think of was that we were going to need to pull the fridge out to see what was lurking under or behind. What would stink in a freezer that has been working ? I suggested to give it another day, in case it was just one of those things.

Today, we opened the freezer and there it was again. Then I opened the fridge and....lets just say its a good thing my nose is congested. I stuck my head waaaaaaay in just to get a good "smell-o-meter" reading. Have you ever noted that husbands don't like to do that kind of detective work?

You guessed it. It was the quinoa.. oppss..... leftover turkey. That and some sulfurous rotting onion I found in the onion drawer.

Ahhhhh... the fridge and freezer smells pretty now.

At least it wasn't the worst rotting food smell I have smelled. Once there was a potato that rolled into some dark crevice. It smelled for weeks, until we were able to locate it.

I won't tell you the rotting celery story, from my days up North as a cook. That smell made me puke. And rotting celery juice will rust cans !!

I have seen a restaurant in the middle of the jungle try to serve green meat! Their freezer ran on a generator but they shut down the generator for 10 hours every night. Net result was green meat and very sick patrons.
